The Ring (not that one): Part 1

In the forests outside the main cities there are creatures other than humankind who claim the title of 'Top of the Food Chain'.  Those creatures are by and large members of The Kestral Society.

Monsters.  That's the easiest classification for who or what comprises the bulk of KS, but the leaders of KS, referred to as 'The Ring', represent the Society's largest interests.

Marna is the oldest of The Ring.  Her ragged wings represent the stories of a thousand battles she shouldn't be alive to tell.  Her deep set eyes have just the faintest glint of life in them,  her raspy breath and sagging skin could be equal results of her age or the disease inside her that she constantly fights against.  Even with all this against her, she's got a voice that commands.  And when she raises it, thousands have no choice but to bow to her will.

Liravayne acts as The Ring's spymaster.  Their eyes never stop watching, never stop reporting, and they can get into everything the humans try to keep secret.  Liravayne is in a constant state of sorrow as they mourn for each and every drone.  Even so, they crawl into the human settlements almost every night to murder one human as retribution for their careless steps that crush Liravayne's eyes.

Cobwebs in my skull

I've got a bad habit of letting a funk settle over me, and then just accepting it as a new layer of armor to protect me from whatever knocks me off my feet next. Over the last couple of weeks the funk has indeed settled.  The armor has hardened and I am a carapace-covered sack of non-ambition.

I think I have too many things that can take up my time, and not enough to improve my immediate situation...and I think the fact that I'm okay with that is a big part of the already formed aforementioned habit.

My brain is already in "So what're you gonna do?" mode, and I'm reaching out pretty much everywhere for writing prompts to try and keep me on something resembling a schedule.  It's far far too easy to slip into a timesuck and I need to make constantly sure I don't slip any further.

So if you're reading this and have any writing prompts that you'd care to share, drop 'em in the comments.  In addition to the deadlines I've already placed on myself (RPG Superstar and Battle of the Pantheons), this is my new slap in the face (my own face, not you kind folks) to shake the cobwebs loose and get moving.
